With compass, ruler and set square you develop your own pattern – and let it shine in golden ink on black paper.
About the workshop
In this four-hour workshop we develop, step by step, your own biomorphic pattern, inspired by the geometric principles of Islamic art. With compass, ruler and set square we place the first points, draw lines and circles and build our individual pattern from them.
The aim is not simply to trace a given motif. You learn the geometric foundations behind the patterns and get the chance to develop, change and continue your own design.
Then we transfer your personal pattern onto black paper and bring it to life with golden ink. Step by step, the fine geometric constructions turn into a unique work of art.
At the end of the evening you go home with your self-designed, hand-painted artwork – and with a new perspective on the fascinating connection between geometry, art and the Islamic design tradition.
But Gold & Geometry is more than a drawing class: look forward to a creative evening in a special atmosphere, the chance to meet new people and create something beautiful together.

How it unfolds
In four stages

Point, line, circle
With compass, ruler and set square you place the first points and draw lines and circles – the basis of your pattern.

The geometry behind it
You learn the geometric foundations behind the patterns of Islamic art instead of simply tracing a motif.

Your own pattern
Step by step you develop a biomorphic pattern, change it and take it further – just as you imagine it.

Gold on black
Finally you transfer your pattern onto black paper and bring it to life with golden ink.

Every piece is designed and painted or engraved by hand in Vienna. Small irregularities are traces of handwork and make each piece unique.
Shipping & returns
Every piece is carefully packed to arrive safely and shipped from Vienna, within Austria and across the EU. Collection pieces carry the statutory right of withdrawal; commissions are excluded.
Care
Clean with a soft, dry cloth. Not dishwasher safe; keep away from long direct sunlight.
